Healthy Schools

A requirement for good quality education

A school building with a healthy indoor climate (according to the Dutch ‘Frisse Scholen’ guideline, that translates to ‘Healthy Schools’) not only ensures a better learning performance, but also verifiably reduces the amount of sick leave among the teaching staff. Pupils can focus better and longer in a classroom with sufficient ventilation and lighting, while good (room) acoustics ensures that pupils can hear teachers better and that teachers are less tired at the end of their working day.

Energy consumption

Older school buildings often score a failing grade in terms of gas and energy consumption. On average, these often poorly insulated schools consume two to three times more gas and electricity than new or renovated school buildings. And with the expected rise in energy prices, the energy costs of these older school buildings in the future will take up an increasing share of the school budget. So it’s clear that a thorough renovation pays off.

Both in an advisory and an assessory role

The Frisse Scholen (‘Healthy Schools’) guideline includes not only the elements for a good indoor environment, but also tackles energy consumption. The experts of Cauberg Huygen are experienced in these kind of school renovations and new-build projects. And because we also take care of the Frisse Scholen assessment for some regions on behalf of governments, we are uniquely positioned as an integral advisor to identify bottlenecks ahead of time and propose cost-effective solutions.
